Facebook Helps Rescue Pets and Livestock Displaced by Taylor …

The Taylor Bridge wildfire continues to wreak havoc on Central and Eastern Washington. Thousands of acres have been decimated by the flames, at least 60 homes have been lost, and, as of Wednesday, 800 firefighters from across the region had been called in to help. Sometimes lost in all this damage and destruction, however, is the impact the Taylor Bridge Fire is having on the area’s animal population.

When it comes to horses and other livestock, the Kittitas County Fairgrounds has become ground zero for helping these displaced four-legged friends. Though KHQ reports the fairgrounds is already housing hundreds of animals affected by the wildfire, with more arriving all the time, the Kittitas County Fairgrounds says via the fair’s Facebook page that there’s still room for animals in need.

And that’s just one of many ways Facebook is helping animals affected by the flames.

From the Kittitas County Fair Facebook page:

The Kittitas County Fairgrounds is still accepting animals affected by the fire. If you are in need of our services, please check in at the station north of the rodeo arena. We need to input all animals into our database. Thank you, and if the situation should change, we will let you know.

When it comes to lost household pets, the situation near Cle Elum and Ellensburg is equally dire. Countless animals have been displaced, leaving places like the Ellensburg Animal Hospital to help out.

As KHQ notes:

Dr. Samantha Howard with the Ellensburg Animal Hospital told KHQ Tuesday night that by 6:00PM Monday, almost 60 dogs were picked up and dropped off at the Ellensburg Animal Hospital. In some cases, owners were unable get livestock loaded into trailers and were forced to just open gates and hope they made it to safety.

In a sign of the times, one of the ways the Ellensburg Animal Hospital is attempting to help animals displaced by the fire is via Facebook.

One such animal is a dog named Hannah, separated from her owner and profiled on the Ellensburg Animal Hospital Hospital’s Facebook page earlier this week. In a bit of good news from an otherwise horrible situation, the animal hospital was able to find Hannah’s owner and reunite the pair Wednesday.

As an Ellensburg Animal Hospital Facebook post from Wednesday notes:

We are happy to report that we have found “Hannah’s” owner. We have been treating her singed feet and she is doing well. We have also micro-chipped her. Unfortunately, Hannah does not have a home to return, too, as her owner lost everything in the fire, but they will be reunited later today.
